I downloaded the new yahoo toolbar but now cannot access the anti- spy program. I have done the ''Get your free Norton Spyware Scan'' and it appears to download but nothing happens after that.

Please check your anti-spyware program. the one that found the problem and now you have to buy it. It could be a rouge program that is ACTUALLY a malware program itself. You can check at the link at the bottom of my answer.

75% of the so called protection programs on the web are themselves malware. ONLY get the good programs from the manufacturer or a reliable source because other sites are re-writing them and distributing them as ''REAL'' software when they actually now contain spyware. Aim wont connect I tried uninstalling and reinstaling but it didnt help all it does is say connecting untill it times out. While i was on aim before the last log off i installed a free anti spyware and scanned and blocked stuff but i uninstalled it and it still wont connect OMG HELLP

Whew this one's difficult.

It could be a whole variety of problems, although I guess your anti-spyware might've just blocked AIM. If that's the case uninstalling it generally helps.

Maybe you can try rolling back your computer to before you installed that free anti-spyware? This should do the trick if you didn't do any important updates to your computer since that time.

I run ad-aware se and think it is a great program are there any other free anti spyware programs that work just as good or maybe even better?

There are many others, Spybot Search %26 Destroy is another example. The all have thier weaknesses and strengths. I personally use Ad-Aware and Spybot in conjunction (one after the other) because what one does not detect the other usually does.

AVG is the superior of the two, Norton can cause conflicts with programs you may be running. As for a anti-spyware I suggest AdAware teamed with Spybot S%26D.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.
I personally wouldn't have the Windows Firewall without having a NAT router behind you.

Problem with my computer?

ok, i got some kinda of virus or trojan or something, im not sure what it is exactly, but i am constantly getting windows popping up saying to download free virus/spyware/malware scanners that scan your computer but then to get rid of them you have to buy the actual product and well im just not cause i cant right now but i've tried a system restore and for whatever reason, all three times i did it, when the computer got back to the desktop it said the restore failed, something interfered with it being completed, so then i turned the system restore off and did a complete scan of the computer (i have norton anti-virus) and that turned up two things that i got rid of but i still have the windows popping up and instead of it taking me to my homepage, it takes me to some virus scanner site. i really have no idea what i can do at this point other then completely re-installing everything on the computer again which i really dont want to have to do

is there anything i can do at this point?
